Some old pictures and stories to share

I have some pictures and stories that President Chipman shared with the mission this morning in a devotional and I thought that others would enjoy them here as well.

This is a picture of Elder Chipman and Elder Mike Strong.  They became mission companions starting in July of 1984 and served together for 6 months in Southern Bolivia in an area known as the Altiplano. It is located just Northwest of Lake Titicaca and not far from us here in Arequipa, Peru.  They worked hard and learned from each other and have remained good friends ever since.  Mike and his wife, Kristin (who served in the same mission in Bolivia) have also recently served as Mission leaders in Peru.  Fortunately, President Chipman has lost the hat and only uses the poncho for Halloween costumes now!

Here is Elder Chipman studying on his bed.  Funny thing is that our missionaries are given the same blankets today to use.  They are very warm!

Here is a picture of Elder Chipman and Elder strong with a family that they baptized. As they taught them, Elder James E. Faust came to the area for a visit.   The father wanted to shake hands with Elder Faust to see if he really was an Apostle of Jesus Christ.  He shook his hand and then they all got baptized.  They loved this family very much!

Here is Elder Strong and Chipman again with another woman was baptized.  President Chipman still has this tie, but thankfully he hasn't worn it since we got married!   He says that this woman lived in a tiny shack with the baby that is pictured on her back. President Chipman describes her as always being very happy.
