All Things have been done in the Wisdom of Him

This is a story as told in our last devotional by one of our newer sisters who gave me permission to share it here. Her name is Hermana Sotomayor, and she is pictured below on the left. She is from Trujillo, and she arrived in the mission field in November of last year.  Her family joined the Church five years ago (missionaries knocked on their door) and they are now sealed in the temple as a family.   Hermana Sotomayor is a very upbeat and happy missionary.

This is a photo of Milagro, Hermana Sotomayor´s aunt, and her 11-year-old daughter (Hermana Sotomayor´s prima).

Hermana Sotomayor and her cousin were like sisters growing up and always together.  In early January, President Chipman received a phone call with the news that Milagro and her daughter had been involved in a tragic car accident.  Milagro was injured and her 11-year-old daughter was killed.  When President Chipman told the news to Hermana Sotomayor, she was devastated.

He was worried about her and instructed her companion to take good care of her.  Later that night,  he phoned Hermana Sotomayor again, to check in on her.  She told him that, initially, she wanted to go home immediately.  She then realized that her being at home would not change anything.  She realized that the best way to help her aunt was to stay in the mission.  The aunt and the prima were not members of the Church, so President Chipman suggested that Hermana Sotomayor serve her family by teaching them (the nonmember extended family) about the Plan of Salvation.   He then gave her permission to call and talk to them and this helped Hermana Sotomayor feel much better.  The talk went so well that Hermana Sotomayor asked for permission to teach her aunt virtually a couple of lessons about the gospel. After doing so, Hermana Sotomayor asked her aunt if she would be interested in receiving the lessons from the missionaries who live in Trujillo.  Milagro agreed, so the new missionaries began to teach her.

This is a photo of Milagro last Sunday at church.  She is getting baptized this coming Saturday.  Yesterday,  for our weekly devotional, President Chipman asked Hermana Sotomayor to share her story with the whole mission.  Her aunt, Milagros, attended the devotional virtually as well.  Hermana Sotomayor bore a powerful testimony of the Plan of Salvation, of her sacred role as a missionary, and of the sacred role of your missionaries and the importance to always work together as a Gospel team.  It was pretty cool.

The scripture that comes to my mind is 2 Nephi 2:24----But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things.
